Ok so I'm running Windows Vista service pack 2, and I want to create a restore point however I get this message (Restore point creation disabled by Group Policy) when I goto the menu to do so.

I tried this using the Registry Editor:
1. Click Start, type regedit.exe and press ENTER

2. Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ SystemRestore

3. In the right-pane, delete the value named DisableConfig

4. Exit the Registry Editor.

And I did delete the DisableConfig value.
I still recieved the restore point disabled message...

I would've also tried using the "Group Policy Editor" however nothing came up when I searched gpedit.msc as reccomended.

Can anybody shed some light on my situation? Thanks.

The correct location is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore and the keys to delete are DisableConfig and DisableSR.☺

Group policies are set for the Network domain, so the setting re in your registry, but not under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Use the control panel in windows to access the Administraive Office and use the Local Security Settings application.
