When I discussed the free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 with the company that has a computer repair shop in our local mall a few weeks ago with two of their technicians, they both told me they weren't upgrading their personal computers just yet, but had upgraded the stores computers so customers could see it and ask questions. They, like many others, are afraid of the many privacy issues that come with Windows 10. Just read Microsoft's End User License Agreement ( EULA ) to see the Terms of Service and what M$ is allowing themselves to use from your computer(s) as far as your personal information. In a word..."scary!"

The only thing you have to do in this world is die, and it has a habit of taking care of itself. Now would it be prudent to take the free Win 10 upgrade may be a suitable question and most people will say yes.

This is up to YOU. Microsoft will eventually force you to update; but there is a way out of everything.

http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/how-stop-windows-10-upgrade-downloading-your-system

The link above will remove the notification and prevent the automatic upgrade.

But may I ask what you have to loose?

Windows 10 ratings are higher then windows 8 ratings. I personally didn't notice a performance change from windows 8 to 10 but I did notice a minor slow down from windows 7 to windows 10. When you have the most current operating system you get more support for security patches and issues with the operating system. If you still cant decide after that being said you can always run a Virtual Machine to try it out.

A Virtual Machine is a program that runs an operating system within another operating system. A windows 10 virtual machine will enable you to take windows 10 for a test drive without actually making any changes.

How to do so, is first download and install virtual box.

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

The link above is the direct download. You are a windows host.

You then download the Windows 10 Virtual Machine which is in the link below

https://dev.windows.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/windows/

Select "MSEdge on Windows 10"

Then select "Virtualbox" as your platform.

If you decide to go for the upgrade, always backup your stuff. The Windows 10 upgrade will leave everything as it was in Windows 8 but it is always good to be safe.

You don't need to but I would highly recommend you do. You'll get answers that will say to absolutely never install Windows 10 but those answers and their rationale are based on absolutely no fact and around a very small subset of users having issues that are directly related to underlying hardware issues, underlying existing software issues, and incompatible drivers.

No, you don't have to. But if you want to upgrade to Windows 10, you can :D You could stay at whatever windows you have.

No. Under no circumstances should anyone do anything that the Microsoft Corporation seems to want users of its Microsoft Windows operating system to do. Ever!

So, do your own online and in-store research and determine for yourself if Windows 10 offers any compelling reasons or features that make you want to do the Upgrade. You don't need to do anything if you don't want. I never upgraded to win 10 and I'm fine about it.

I have used win10 and rolled back to win 8.1 because the system response is low on win 10.win 10 just have an attractive UI. but if your a gamer I noticed that win 10 improves gaming by few fps. although I won't recommend upgrading.windows is a program that does what its programmed to do.so don't listen to it when it say upgrade me :-)

NO NO NO you don't. Windows 10 is spyware masquerading as an OS. To get rid of that pop and constant nagging uninstall this update, KB 3035583. M$ is playing you.

With Windows 10 M$ owns your system. You can no longer pick the updates you want installed. THEY can choose which drivers are installed. THEY can choose what THEY want on your system. THEY even installed a backdoor in it so THEY can SPY on you at all times.

We all thought Windows 8 would be the worse OS M$ would release and they learned there lesson. Then they come along with 10 and prove us wrong. People who make a profit off spyware and love the government knowing what you do on a daily basis are truly in love with Windows 10 and think it is the best OS M$ ever released. It probably will not be long before they take away your right to refuse updates on them so they can force Windows 10 and the future bad releases on its users.

The probability of a person being right increases in direct proportion to the intensity with which others are trying to prove him wrong. Ask yourself why so many are trying so hard to deny the simple facts concerning Windows 10. The truth doesn't change just because it hurts someone feelings. In fact, the truth typically offends those it applies to.

Windows 10 is so bad that M$ is now resorting to strong arm tactics to force the use of it. They are using every trick possible to force people to it.

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/219541-microsoft-takes-the-gloves-off-on-pushing-windows-10-upgrades

They have now raised it to recommended update to trick those who have that checked off in update preference.

http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-starts-pushing-windows-10-as-a-recommended-update/

The worse part is they have decided that you are stuck with this one. It is called Windows as a service. From this point on you will not be able to refuse updates of any kind. What that really means is that M$ can install or delete anything it wants on your puter anytime it wants. Their attitude is, tough we now control you and your puters and there is nothing you can do about it. The other reason for forcing updates on you is to also force new releases of the OS on you. This means the next time they have a Vista or Windows 8 you will not have a choice but to upgrade to it. They will use your auto update feature to force it down your throat. Everyone knows the history of M$ and how bad they can be in destroying a good OS.

I would not upgrade to Windows 10. It is spyware masquerading as an OS. Another reason it is free. With Windows 10 you can not be guaranteed protection. M$ has built a back door into it and plans on spying on its users. When the hard core virus writers find out how to exploit it, there will be no stopping them.

From Computersecurity wikia: A backdoor is a means of access to a computer program that bypasses security mechanisms. (WINDOWS 10 data collection bypasses all firewalls) A programmer may sometimes install a backdoor so that the program can be accessed for troubleshooting or OTHER PURPOSES. However, attackers often use backdoors that they detect or install themselves, as part of an exploit.

Spyware is software that aims to gather information about a person or organization without their knowledge and that may send such information to another entity without the consumer's consent, or that asserts control over a computer without the consumer's knowledge. Spyware is mostly classified into four types: system monitors, trojans, adware, and tracking cookies. Spyware is mostly used for the purposes of tracking and storing Internet users' movements on the Web and serving up pop-up ads to Internet users.

From Extreme Tech

There are certain new “features” of Windows 10 that can’t be blocked by any OS-level tweaks, including the hosts file. The updates listed above connect to vortex-win.data.microsoft.com and settings-win.data.microsoft.com. These addresses are hard-coded to bypass the hosts file and cannot be prevented from connecting. It’s been reported that software firewalls aren’t sufficient to block them, though this is unclear.

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/213183-once-more-with-tracking-microsoft-backports-privacy-invading-windows-10-features-to-windows-7-8

By default Windows 10 logs just about everything you do.

http://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-silently-uses-your-bandwidth-to-send-updates-to-others/

They say you can opt out of it but it still phones home, it's a trap

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/212160-windows-10-still-phones-home-even-when-ordered-not-to-do-so

Then there is the matter of not being able to turn off auto updates or selecting what they install. In other words with Windows 10 M$ can install anything they want on your puter.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2949621/windows/windows-10-will-force-automatic-updates-for-all-home-users.html

They have a bad track record with updates, but now it will get worse.

http://www.zdnet.com/article/has-microsoft-stopped-testing-their-updates/

It is a sad state when a population rolls over to major corporation, which shares what they have with the government when requested, and allows everything they do be monitored, logged, stored, and saved for ever.

Just pick up a history book and see how well this has worked out in the past. Back then they couldn't come close to how much data is being collected today. Think Germany, Russia, China, Cuba and oh so many more who have fallen prey to Totalitarian, Fascism, Communism, Socialism, Nazism, or any other ism you can think of. Give up privacy give up liberty and freedom.

If you do decide to update make a complete image of your hard drive in case you decide to go back to your original OS. We are finding using the go back feature built into Widows install is causing problem and M$ is deleting the recovery partition.

If M$ has there way, Windows 7 and 8 is going to be just like Windows 10. We found out that M$ is now hard coding this spyware ( back door) into Windows 7 and 8. Look for these updates in and see if you have them. KB 3068708 KB 3022345: KB 3075249: KB 3080149:
