MS Word 2007 line numbers help?

I am trying to add line numbers to my document using MS Word 2007 and it's not working. I went to page layout, line numbers and selected continuous and nothing happens. HELP!

Apparently, until you start putting text on the page, there are no line numbers.

When you go to Page Layout, then line numbers... you have continuous selected but at the bottom of that menu select line number properties. (a new window pane opens) at the bottom click on the line number button and select your options there.
