First try running your security products such as antivirus and antispyware applications in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode, reboot and then either hold down or tap the F8 key repeatedly while the computer is starting up. If your computer comes up clean after running your resident security products, you may want to consider running a System File Checker (SFC). To run SFC, close all applications such as Office, Messenger, Email, etc, and go to:

- Start

- Run

- Type in sfc /scannow (include the space before the " / ")

What SFC does is that it attempts to fix or replace critical operating system files. Sometimes this can be done without the installation disk, however it may prompt you for the appropriate operating system installation disk. If that is the case, then you know that you definitely have major file corruption or something missing. Insert the disk if prompted. Also you should run SFC using the Administrator account.

If you have the Vista operating system, the steps are a bit different due to the UAC. See the link below.

Don't surf, play games or do anything while SFC runs. After it is completed, reboot your computer.

One of the major culprits in missing or corrupt operating system files is running a registry cleaner or optimizer. They can flag important shared files for deletion or cleanup. Another cause is malware.

NOTE: Before running any registry cleaner or editing the registry, always ensure you back it up first. If the registry cleaner you are using doesn't have that function, you can do it manually. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

If you cannot get it removed after the above, you may want to join a tech group that specializes in providing manual instructions on malware eradication.

The virus (or potentially computer virus) has without doubt broken touchy documents wanted for the laptop to role competently. Your nice guess is to replicate all of the documents that you're confident that don't seem to be inflamed and positioned them on an outside tough force, CD, USB or some other Mass Storage Device. After you have got performed this, make certain you continue to have the CDs that got here along with your laptop. Now, restart your laptop, and hit F12 (I'm lovely certain it is F12, if it is not, it is F11, F10, or something). It will have to than take you to a Hard Drive monitor wherein you'll be able to do extraordinary matters along with your tough force. There will have to be an choice wherein it says "Boot from CD or USB" (anything like that), decide on that and insert the essential XP CD that got here along with your laptop. Than simply effortlessly comply with the directions. This will reformat your laptop, making the tough force BLANK once more, and than reinstall the essential facets of XP and what's had to run a laptop. After this, reinstall all of the techniques that got here with the laptop. Another answer is that you'll be able to attempt to down load AVG, Ad-Aware Personal, SpyBot S&D, do a whole test and delete the whole lot. Or you'll be able to ask for recommendation at a internet site referred to as Five Star Support. Links in Source.

I would call microsoft and explain it to them. I had to do this for a microsoft game, and they gave me a new code - usually you would have to re-install over existing os if system files are corrupt. That is what I would do.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode. When it's booting up & you see some writing, like Dell, start hitting the F8 key repeatedly til it goes into Safe Mode. You can then run your anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc. When you're done, restart pc. Good luck.
