Over the years, you've maintained a typed mailing list consisting of dozens of important addresses. So you can more easily sort and edit these addresses, you want to put the data onto your computer. Which of the following devices would be most useful for this task?

A. An OCR-capable scanner
B. A megapixel digital camera
C. A modem capable of a speed of at least 56 Kbps
D. A CD-ROM drive with a rating of at least 24X sampling

The only quick way to take printed material into data files, is through the OCR (optical character recognition) software. Any scanner will scan the item in. Some scanners have OCR software supplied with the package. No scanner has internal OCR capabilities. The camera MIGHT work with OCR if you make sure that the photographic axis of the camera is perpendicular to the axis of the paper.

No modem will do anything but move digital information from one computer to another.

The CD-ROM is only good for storing such data. The speed rating is greating over emphasized. That is the MAXIMUM speed that the drive is capable of. They are usually used at much lower speeds than the drive is capable of. This is modified by the speed of the CPU of the computer and the other load on the computer.

A as your question starts I have a *TYPED list right?

a camera wont work modem is not typwriter compatible

cd rom drove wont accept the typing paper hmm.. trick question? no jsut a common sense one

on the other hand, I have done this exact function by putting my lists into my scanner and scanning them into my computer... the iris ocr feature IRIS develops OCR solutions for PC and Mac OS that convert paper information into editable documents: Readiris, the IRISPen, Cardiris and the Business Cards etc..

OCR software performs all the tedious retyping work for you in no time flat. theres the ONLY 1 and correct answer for you!

It would be A - I think. Process of elimination says that a modem is incapable of capturing a typed mailing list as would D. A digital camera will capture it as an image, but depending on the type of scanner - you can convert the file so that you have the ability to sort and manipulate.

The answer is A

An optical character reader.

It works similar to a scanner however words are recognized and can be imported directly into an application.
