I have got a problem with my PC?

Question

Whenever I try to access one of my hard drives I got the window "open with" and a list of programs to select from. I have 4 partitions, and I use 2 of them (C,D) with which I have the problem, I can access the other 2 with no problem (E,F). I have scanned my PC and performed disk check error. I can access them (C,D) if I use internet explorer.

How can I avoid having the "open with" window.

Put a "tic" in the box "Always open with ~~~~~~"

You can "browse" and enter the file name also.

Thats because of a virus. No need of reformatting, which will lose your entire data, if the virus is not so severe.



To clear the virus, Check whether you have option enabled to view hidden files/folders. This could be easily found in explorer->tools->folder options.

If not set, select that option and save the settings.

Next right click on the each drive(c, d) and remove if there are any autorun.inf and any .exe file that is written to run in the autorun.inf.



Make a note of the .exe file before deleting it. Now open 'regedit' program or registry editor from run menu and search for and delete the entries with the name .exe file has.



You have to delete .exe entry in /windows/system32/ folder if found. better search for the guilty .exe file throught the system and delete all the entries found.



Restart your machine, to make the changes affective.

Might be your C & D hard drive index location is set to an Autorun programme or your system is infected by virus. If you have not installed any anti virus software then try to scan your system using some online scanners. But still if you dont find any solution then you could Reinstall only windows without formatting or could use system restore to an earlier date when your system was working fine. This might solve your problem. And if still you have not got solution then there is no other way than to format your system.

u go to ur problems drive, right click n open the drives..



then in ur menu bar, select tools - folder options - view, then enable show hidden files n folder..

after that u will see this files, "auto.exe.. delete this file, but make sure u make a back up 1st...



p/s - this files mostly come when ur drives inffected with virus, so i also suggest u to update ur anti virus n do a virus scans..

sometimes, the open with window will pop out if the partition is infected with virus before. even if you already removed the virus, it wont open easily unless you format the partition.

i have the same probs with my thumb drive before and i format it. probs solved.
