I need the programs (word, powerpoint, excel, etc.) for school but I can't buy them myself since I'm 15 and I don't want to ask my parents to buy office if I can get it for free. Is there anywhere I can download old versions of it to use for free, that aren't trials?

Unfortunately there are no free downloads of MS Office available, only trail versions. :(

But if you are looking for something free and just as good as MS Office, you should try SSuite Office for a free office suite. :)

No trials, no registering your personal information, no strings attached at all. Just free office software. :D

Sorry, this is untrue. Microsoft doesn't allow free downloads of any version of MS Office, no matter how old. You can download Open Office for free - it's an open source office suite with similar functionality.

Microsoft dos not offer old copies of Office for free. I recommend a trip to the school's library and ask the librarian this question. There are many free alternatives to Microsoft Office, but to say any of them are as good is a flat out lie. Just the same, you can make do with them if you can't get hold of the real thing.

There's a big list of alternative products here:

Although OpenOffice has the loudest supporters, IBM's Symphony is also worth considering.

The list is a bit out of date, as it does not include skydrive.com, a free on-line suite of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications. Like all the web-based Office alternatives including Google, it has only a tiny fraction of the features of real Office:

Hi Kyle,

You cannot download older, full versions of Office for free. However, there is a great Office giveaway contest going on right now on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Why don't you enter one of the contests? The prize is a free copy of Office 2010 Professional!
