I've pressed a button or something and my margins have messed up in Microsoft word. The left and right ones are fine but the top one has messed up and now it starts writing right at the top of the page. How do I put it back to normal?? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you've accidentally turned off the Interpage display, which also turns off the headers and footers and the top and bottom margins. This is easily fixed, but first let's make sure you’re in Print Layout view.

In Word versions prior to Word 2007:

1. Click the View->Print Layout menu item.

In Word 2007:

1. Click on the View tab on the Ribbon.

2. Click the Print Layout button all the way on the left.

Now here’s how to fix the Interpage display itself.

1. Find the solid black line between the pages or at the top of the first page.

2. Click it with the cursor. (Double-click in Word 2007.)

That should bring things back the way you want them.

Hope that helps.

P.S. Even without doing any of the above, your file will appear normal in Print Preview and will print properly.

Click on "file" (top left corner); slide mouse down to highlight and click on "page set-up;" click on "margins tab." The default margins are set at 1" top and 1" bottom, as well as 1" left and 1" right for 8 l/2 x 11 paper size. Gutter position is "left." Hope this helped.

To change default margins (this will change them for all new documents)

Go to File on the menu bar, slide down to Page Setup

Make sure the margins tab is selected and enter desired margins, click on the Default button

When you do this, it will ask you if you are sure you want to do this, click Yes.

Page Layout; Margins then choose the one you require.
