Question:
How do I create a "back" button on a powerpoint presentation?

I am creating a Powerpoint document that is an interactive flow chart. I want to create a button on all pages to return to the previous page.

This needs to be a button similar to one you get on your internet browser. So it does NOT just return to the previous numerical slide you were on, but the previous slide you were viewing.

For example:

If I am on Slide 4 and I click a hyperlink to take me to Slide 7, how do I create a button to take me back to Slide 4 (as it was teh previous slide I was on) and NOT to Slide 6, which would be the slide that is before Slide 7 numerically.

I will need this on every slide, as if someone clicks the wrong link by mistake, they can just go back to the previous slide they were on, rather than having to start all over again.

I hope I've been clear!!! Thank you in advance for all of your help! I will rate the Top answer I promise!

Thanks

This is for PowerPoint 2003 - should work for other versions:

If you're using one slide master, you can insert an action button on the master and the button is available throughout the presentation. If you are using multiple slide masters (such as when you have applied more than one design template to your presentation), you must insert the action button on each master.

On the View menu, point to Master and then click Slide Master.

On the Slide Show menu, point to Action Buttons, and then select the Return button (hover over the icon images to find the button description).

Click the slide in the position you want to have the action button. An "Action Setting" dialog box will open

Make sure that Hyperlink to "Last slide viewed" is selected. Click OK to accept the proposed hyperlink in the Hyperlink to list, or click the arrow and select the link you want.

Click Close Master View on the Master View toolbar

I've just learnt how to do this at school! Basically you hyperlink two slides by:

1)Specifying an object which you are going to use as your hyperlink (or the thing you click to go on the previous slide).

2)Right click on this object and click on ''Hyperlink''.

3)Then, ignore all the scary stuff and try and find ''Place in this Document'' on the left hand side.

4)Pick your slide and click on ''Ok''.

5)You're done! Just test it out though to make sure it works properly :)

Right click the element on the slide you want to make a back button.

Select "Action Settings..." from the context menu.

Change "Action on Click" from none to Hyperlink to... -> Previous Slide

Think logically..

From any slide you can link to an slide by means of Hyperlink..

So in general you can create a text box in a slide and hyperlink it to any previous slide.

I hope this will help you..
