Whenever I attempt to open, edit, or even look at .avi files *a video format) Windows Vista Crashes then restarts, this happens whether they are on the desktop or in a program, or a folder, Explorer will restart, Nero restarts, Windows Media Player Restarts, Internet Explorer no longer opens properly, Very few programs are working..

My biggest issue right now is trying to get .avi files to work, thanks for any help

Make sure that you have all the latest updates installed for vista and IE. DO a windows update.

Another possibility is a known bug that results when vista tryis to assign an icon to a fule in a filder with a long name. Try shortening fiolder and file names and hope that SP1 addresses this in March.

Good Luck

I even have an identical undertaking too. frequently i uninstall all my formats, video participant making use of their uninstall application first. (upload or get rid of application) and that i meant all of it even the residing house windows media participant if its got here across on the advert or get rid of classes. Restart. installation one participant or codec purely, dont combination all formats purely to play your movie, it ought to crash most of the different video application making use of a formats. you could attempt installation ok-lite codec packs, its has assorted formats in it with a single setup purely. it runs quite much all video clips.
