If you're trying to incorporate both text and equations, the microsoft office 2007 version of Word has equations, symbols, etc all in it now. I use Microsoft word to take Chemistry and Physics notes because I can find any of the symbols or letters (such as greek) to write the equations. And it comes out very neatly once you get used to it.

My college buys notes, and writing them on Word nets me $100 per section.

If you have Microsoft Word, go to the "Commands" tab and "add" Equation symbols or Equation Editor, depending on what version of Word you have.
