Question:
Why is my burner not found in my DVD burning software?

I just bought a DVD burning software called Super DVD Creator 9.8. This program works great and it worked on my other computer and laptop before. Only in my new laptop HP Pavilion dv4t, the software doesn't recognize my burner, and thus can't burn it. However, when I used another software (like Power2Go) on the same laptop, it found my burner and could create a DVD just fine.

My burner is up to date and the software works fine too. So I'm thinking it has to be my laptop's problem, but I don't know what. Is it some updates I need or codecs or anything else that makes this not working?

p.s. I searched for the problem and some people said to look at the device manager at the DVD/CD-ROM. I did and it does have the name of my burner.

It sounds like you have a new computer, could be it is running windows vista.

There have been a lot of reports of vista causing problems due to digital rights managment issues.

I would seriously consider switching to XP Pro.

OK well, so what your telling me is that the burner works fine with other software and that the software works fine with other burners but that the burner and the software do not work together.

I think I would go onto the Super DVD Creator 9.8 website and check for a forum or a FAQ or a list of known problems. You should also Check the HP website knowledge base or Faq or forums for your problem. See if anyone else is having the same problem, You can also just do a google search for the problem.

The problem seems to be that software does not support that DVD burner, it may be too new and the software just does not know what it is. If this is the case you should find others on the web sites complaining about it as well. The software manufacturer may be in the process of updating thier software now.

I think your computer and operating system is fine, otherwise your other program wouldn't work either. Before you do anything else, make sure your new Super DVD Creator is set to "run as administrator." That is right click the program file or even the shortcut icon - click properties, compatibility, and check the "run as administrator box." Then see how it goes. Some programs need you to do that to run on Vista.

If that doesn't work the program may be conflicting with your other burning programs. Try uninstalling it completely and then reinstalling.
