It does cause a few problems but, it certainly fixes more than it causes. Also it fixes many security issues. As for what updates do I install after loading Windows. Depends what PC I am using. If it is my home PC I will blanket install everything that automatic updates finds. If I am at work I put each update through the test lab before they go live on the servers to test for problems but, those are servers and they run 2003 not xp.

It seems to me that you need the right

COMBINATION of XP SP2 and IE6.

I have heard there ARE problems with XP SP3.

I suggest you don't go there.

...but my personal experience with XP SP2

have been excellent. My XP operating system runs smoothly.

Also:

I am running IE6.

If you are running IE7, I suspect there is where your troubles stem, because there have been lots of complaints..and many people are reverting to IE6.

Control Panel > Add Remove Programs >

REMOVE IE7

then your pc will automatically revert to IE6.

it sounds like your monitor may be going bad, or is not plugged in all the way. When the light is orange that means that your computer has power (electricity) but is not getting any information from your computer, or it is in stand-by mode. Make sure your monitor is securely plugged into your computer, and if there are any clips or screws on the end of the plug, make sure they are fastened tightly. I have never heard of Sims2 causing someone's monitor to turn off. Since you can still hear the game, you computer is still on and the game is still running.

I install SP2. It's SP3 that bricks some computers and causes problems with others.

Definitely not. sp2 is far more secure. It has a firewall with which you can block selected ports which is a basic necessity of any sensible operating system.

If you are having problems with networking it could be because you havent configured your firewall properly. If you have any other problem, please post it here
