So i don't remember changing anything on my computer (Vista) but I used Ctrl + Alt + Delete to bring up the windows task manager to end a program that was running, like iTunes because it wouldn't close when i clicked the red X. Anyways, it closed what i wanted but my screen went black, and back on but the difference is, my background for the main screen is all black now and it still shows my icons. So i put my desktop background back to the way it was and now when i use Windows Task Manager there is no 3 buttons at the top to let me Minimize it, Restore Down, or close it. Then i tried right clicking it on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen but it wont pull the little window up! somebody please help me.

There have to be two issues:

a. Virus Infection (Use Avast free)

b. Corrupt Registry/System errors (Use Reginout )

I am sure it will fix for you.

Vista has 'elevated' admin protection, even if logged into an admin account you still do not have admin rights to system files and programs, to get admin rights to task manager: Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click Command Prompt > Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click Continue. At the command prompt, type taskmgr.exe Task Manager will now run with full admin privileges ps: whenever using a program, its always best to right click on the icon and check whether it has an option to 'run as administrator' (including your browsers) it stops alot of problems that vista users experience :)

Either you have a very low physical memory(RAM) in your computer or your computer is infected with some virus. If you want to close the task manager just click on the process tab in the task manager, select taskmanager from the list and click end process. It should work.

Just do what is called a COLD reboot: shut down or pull the plug or whatever and completely turn off the computer and then restart it and it should be fine.
