Well i have an old computer with windows 98 Se installed (well was...) But it crashed and i DO have the original CD but NOT the original floppy disk. So when i boot it up it says Please insert windows startup disk 2. Press any key to continue. Well i instert a Floppy disk i made from http://www.bootdisk.com and nothing happens. I even tried making a boot disk from the command prompt and it still wont work. Why isnt windows booting into graphical mode? Any ideas on how i can:
A) get the real "Startup Disk 2" without paying for the whole windows 98 package
or
B) fix this "error" causing windows to need a disk.

Thanks for you time and i hope i have given you enough info.

I believe windows98 se is a bootable CD disk. Go into your Bios and make sure that your cdrom is set as the 1st boot device, and the hard drive set as the second boot device. Once that is accomplished, throw the windows98 Cd into the CD Rom and restart the computer.

Make sure you keep an eye on the install, because when it is done installing and it wants to restart, make sure you pop open the cdrom with the cd in it so that it doesn't take you back to step #1.

If this doesn't work. Then set the floppy drive back to the 1st boot device, boot the system with the bootdisk. Get to a D:\ prompt or what ever the drive letter is for your cdrom , and type in D:\setup.exe

Contact your computer maker & request a new disk, ,just the one, there my be a charge for it, but I would explain that you have tried their download & it doesn't work. Some times, they will walk you throught the steps.
