as years pass new gadgets comes to invention so they want them to interface those to the PC like say LAN port,USB, etc, so they upgrade the os and added features...for 95 98 we need to install drivers for particular usb devices....from xp lan ports ,usb , printer ports are pre installed
from vista for any company video and audio drivers need not be installed
as the hardware complexity increases like ram is>2GB and i3 , i5 i7 microprocessor
windows 7 is best tuned for adaption f those hardware
