I don't trust downloads generally, especially freeware. So have any of you guys ever run into issues with viruses from LMMS? What's their official website, so I can download it from a trusty source? Thanks for your answers =]

Three of these answers are right. I've downloaded and installed LMMS from SourceForge 2X (once for my Vista machine in 2010 and once for this Windows 7 machine last April) with no problems.

LMMS is a great program but it's a tad complicated at first. Once you begin to figure it out, you'll love what you can do with it. Here are some tutorials.

Even though LMMS has a piano roll, it's even better if you have a MIDI keyboard, even a little one, to input melodies, etc. I finally got myself a small keyboard just to make things easier.

Freeware is NOT Open Source.

Freeware does not allow other programmers to see their code. It often includes spyware or adware or another type of virus. But, it's free... like drinking a free beer. Free as in beer.

Programs that are Open Source (such as Linux) have their code available to the world. If anything malicious were in there, then programmers would have found it already. These programs are like free speech. Free as in speech! Nothing that you download from *.sourceforge.net will ever be malicious. The world's programming community guarantees it.

Short answer: No

Because this is created for people that use operating systems based on the "Linux" kernel it is completely open source, I have read the source code myself out of curiosity and it is a trustworthy program, I know they have a windows version but there is no way you can get a virus from this.

I am also guessing you use Windows.

The official website is lmms.sourceforge.net

I don't recommend downloading ANYTHING from anything other than the official website because viruses come in different forms. Viruses can come in the form of a JPEG which is simply a picture.

As long as you download it from the OFFICIAL Linux site your fine, make sure it's not a scam site...

Stay away from softpedia...rapidshare...sourceforge...mediafire. -Those are all sites where ANYBODY can upload a VIRUS... and call it Linux MultiMedia Studio and trick you.

The official site to download your file would be: http://linux-multimedia-studio-64bits.en.softonic.com/

Hit the Green "Free download" "Safe Download" button.
