If you're planning on upgrading to Vista just because it's available then it's not worth it at all. Only upgrade if you're actually going to use Vista to it's full potential.
Vista is very security-oriented. It'll stop you at every turn and ask you questions or warn you of possible risk. I once heard it described as a "large surrounding wall that closes you in and doesn't let you go anywhere".
I recommend staying with Windows XP Pro. It'll definitely be faster then Vista, and is plainer and less complicated. In the end though, it's your decision.

As a PC Tech, my recommendation is to stick with XP Pro. Provided you want to move up, try the Vista Upgrade Advisor and be sure your current system would handle it ok. . As for version...go with Business or Ultimate only. You will have to back up your data to dvd or external hard drive first, after install you can navigate to hd and import. Pro's of Vista are the eye-candy and bitlocker encryption. Both of which you can have in XP. As for XP Pro, keep it updated and check firewall exceptions and use good antivirus (updated), like Avast Home and Malwarebytes.

pass with a mac very own laptop. the hot OS X "Leopard" can do way greater advantageous than vista anyhow, and there are video games available for mac. Oct. twenty 6th i'm making plans on procuring the hot iMac for $1199 if it comes pre put in wth leopard. anyhow, a mac is a lot greater reliable than a computing device, i exploit them the two in a similar day (macs in college, my computing device at homestead) and that i like mac because of the fact the OS isn't a POS. homestead windows freezes all of the time and constantly is susceptible to viruses that could even wreck your troublesome stress. Mac's are based on the unix OS, a single kernel working gadget, which makes them lots much less susceptible. in case you think of roughly it, mac is a bigger purchase than computing device, advantageous it fee slightly greater advantageous than a computing device, yet in the top it may even out. purchase a webcam, anti virus, probable spend money repairing stupid blunders on your computing device, upload some desent application and you probable spent greater advantageous than that on a computing device, once you have in simple terms offered a mac. And the OS will take a pair of day to be taught if that, it incredibly is a lot greater ordinary to function than a computing device. And apple has a help menu in the menu bar that has computing device to Mac translations (all classes=macintosh hd, etc.)

I can think of no logical reason to use vista
