When I open the FILE menu in Word 2003, at the bottom there are 6 recently opened documents listed. As this is a shared computer I want to keep this private, how do I close it? I did it once on my old computer, but I have forgotten how I did it.

Unfortunately, there's no way to selectively delete files from the list. To clear the list entirely, do this:

1. Click the Tools->Options menu item.

2. Click the General Tab.

3. Uncheck the checkbox next to Recently Used File List.

4. Click OK.

If you want to show recently used files again, go back and check the checkbox again. The old ones will be gone.

Hope that helps.

Open Word -> Click Tools ->Options -> General -> Uncheck the "Recently Used File List" checkbox. Click Ok. Close Word, re-open Word.

tools > options > general tab > check box "recently viewed file list"

tools > customize > options tab > check box "always show full menus"
