An update, one of many(who knows which one)that cannot be deleted or "system restored" to a time befor it. My search about this has found that many, many people, are dealing with this problem. Unfortunatly no proposed solutions have worked for me. It goes like this: under sound and audio devices(all greyed out"no audio device"), updated, unistalled, reinstalled, rolledback drivers(nothing),checked if on in bios(no prob). Everything that i need for sound is there! This was months ago when i lost sound, and having no luck in correcting the issue, I saved what i could and reformatted my laptop and reinstalled xp home. Now back to service pack 1 and with full sound again! Four days ago I tried updating again, thought i needed to have sp2 since sp1 is no longer suported or updated. No sound, once again! Now narrowed it down to"plug and play software device enumerator" it says "device not workng-cannot load drivers" then I accidentally deleted it!! how do i get it back and and working right?

Sounds like you should run it in sp1 or update your sound card.

You might want to try updating different drives for it from driversguide.com

the second oldest answer is a bit extreme!

you don't need to format your machine!

go to your sound card manufacturers website and download the latest drivers - [unzip them if necessary]

Right click "my computer" choose properties and open the hardware tab then press device manager button.

Check for exclamation mark or red cross near your sound card.

highlight your sound card and choose "uninstall"

next, open the "action" tab and choose "scan for hardware changes"

when it finds your sound card, choose "install from a specific location [advanced]" and point it at where you saved your new drivers

the rest is self explanatory.

when your sound is restored, make sure that you identify which update component killed your drivers and flag it not to update that particular component again.

hope this helps

go to system properties then hardware then device manager then delete all drivers involving sound then reboot if that doesnt work then format (or u can wait and see if theres an update later on) also feel free to email me if u need to

make certain you have your sound grew to become on. there is probably a button on your computer that has a valid image and a do no longer sign of a few sort. this many times fixes the priority, stupid issues like that ensue to me each and all the time lol
