Question:
Sound glitch in Sony Vegas Pro 13?
?

Ever since I performed a system restore on my computer and then reinstalled Sony Vegas 13, I have constantly had this issue that also seems to happen with Windows Media Player. The issue is that, whenever I minimize Vegas 13 or WMP, then sometimes when I maximize it, the sound will only play from one of my speakers. Then if I minimize it again, there will be a 50/50 chance that the sound will restore to both speakers, but as soon as I minimize the window or open another window over it, then it will only play sound through one speaker, right or left...

Can anyone please help me with this? I never experienced this problem until I restored my computer.

Did you re-install all System Board and Audio Device Drivers after you did the Operating System RECOVERY??? "System Restore" means something entirely different, in Windows for example.

If not, please tell us the Make and Model of your PC, your Operating System version and the Make and Model of your Speakers (and connection type: USB or 3.5 MM plug).

And tell us if you have any other audio Apps installed, other than your LEGAL Sony Vegas PRO 13, including the website link to these other Apps.

TIP: If SVP 13 is NOT legal, you do have to tell us that, too.

Download drivereasy and make sure ALL your drivers are completely up to date - a system restore doesnt do a great job on that

I used to be ok with Win Med.Plyr until I discovered "MPC" (Media Player Classic)

SVP uses the audio/video codecs that came with your comp. which are very limited. Sometimes you also get this same audio problem/issue if you have itunes installed on your comp. which seems to mess with SVP when you have the quicktime set as your default audio & or video player. I fixed the issue by DL the codec pack. Sometimes you also have to uninstall QT, I wouldn't uninstall any audio/media player just yet. Your issue should fix by DL the codec pack.

List of to do’s

1) Make a new System Restore point.

2) DL the free audio/video codecs pack

3) Adjust your Virtual Memory settings

4) DL “Classic Shell” (if you have the new app window when starting your comp. unless you love it)

5) DL the free converter

6) Un-check the Auto. Problem Reporter

7) Place a shortcut to the autosave folder on to your desktop

8) Undock your Vid. Preview window

1) SYS RESTORE

First, go to your control panel & make a new system restore point so you have the option to undo everything for any reason.

2) DL CODECS PACK

It's free to DL & don't worry you won't get the bait & switch where you are tricked to install additional junk SW, but it does come with that MPC, it has terrific customization settings options. Not only do I prefer this over Win. MP, but also I like it better than the VLC media plyr. I had.

Optimize your comp.settings so SVP works best with the components.

3) VIRTUAL MEM settings

a) Change the virtual memory default settings to "Best Performance."

b) Customize the default settings in the "Performance Options" & manually reset them.

a

In Control Panel, type in "System" & select it.

On the left, select, "advanced system settings."

In the Advanced tab, under "Performance" select "settings."

Change it to "Adjust for best performance."

Don't close this yet.

b

Go to the advanced tab here in the Performance Options. Keep this open & go to your web browser to do a search, go to YT.

Type in the search "how to change my virtual memory settings in Windows 8" (or whatever version you have) & follow along to change the default settings to custom. When I did this, it helped a LOT.

Restart your comp.

Don't open SVP yet. Double click any audio or video clip in your comp. with the volume up & see if you can hear it. If yes, open a SVP project that has both audio & video, play it out. If you can hear it, problem fixed. If you can't, then go to up to the SVP menu above, to: Options>Preferences

& tap on the "Audio Device" tab & view the "audio device type." Whatever it's showing, change it to 1 of the alternate options, click OK at the bottom & try playing it out. If it won't play open it back up & click the other options again & repeat until it does play out. (It should)

Also, open up the "Volume Mixer" & view the expanded list that shows the different areas & different volume settings for each area. Sometimes for some reason your volume might be muted for only SVP & it's not muted for say your web browser & media player.

4) DL THE FREE CLASSIC SHELL

You didn't mention which windows version you have, you know XP, Win 7, Win 10? I truly missed the classic view of Windows 7, you know with the start menu & lovely customized HD Pic screen. I stumbled on this terrific free DL to get your comp. back to the old windows view with the start menu instead of the apps window. It's called "Classic Shell." If you have that awful apps window, I'd definitely recommend DL this software, it's terrific. It actually allows you to disable that apps window when you restart your comp.

5) DL CONVERTER

Another "find I also found was the free converter. I use this all the time for 2 things.

1) If you have some random stubborn clip that refuses to drop in the timeline (usually an AVI) which I "convert" to an MP4 in the same size.

2) If you have a render that is grossly too large. I wanted to upload that render to YT & it was 4GB, just ridiculous. I converted the mp4 to the same (mp4) in the same size & it compressed the file size all the way down to something like 600mb. When I played both sidexside, they looked identical in quality.

6) UNCHECK THE AUTO PROB. REPORTING in the settings menu of SVP

I learned the hard way that if you have a freeze/crash SVP can automatically send a problem report over the internet OR if a popup appears after the freeze/crash asking if you want to report the issue to Sony, ALWAYS SAY NO.

Go into your menu Options>Preferences & locate (I think it's in the "General" tab) the "auto-send a problem report, UNCHECK this if it's already checked. Mine was checked by default after I newly installed the SW & it DID send a report, which FROZE the software & to get it unfreezed, it took me over 3 weeks to figure out how to get the SW working again it was sheer HELL. They are probably exercising their right to offer to have you pay $ to contact them to help you to get SVP working again, which instead I opted to uninstall & reinstall, which didn't work. I actually had to use "Revo Uninstaller Pro" because if you uninstall through the standard method in the Control Panel SVP leaves stuff behind that prevents a successful re-installation. It also leaves stuff in your registry that the standard uninstall doesn't remove, which Revo DOES remove. As long as you know ahead of time this info., you can totally prevent going through the same drama by ALWAYS saying NO to the problem report.

7) Place a shortcut to the AutoSave folder on to your desktop

If you do end up having a crash, you can easily pull up the autosave folder to find the most recent save.

Open up the "Explorer" folder.

C>Users>(you)>AppData>Local>Vegas Pro> then see your version (13.0) Right click>Copy & go to your desktop & right click & select "paste shortcut" OR after right clicking 13.0 folder, select "Pin to taskbar or start menu." If you have the standard windows view with the start menu you can just place the shortcut to your desktop. Or if you don't have it & DL the Classic Shell it will work great. When you have a crash/freeze in the middle of a huge project, it's frustrating enough scrambling to locate that darn autosave folder as it is. Just having this on your desktop makes it so much better.

8) UNDOCK YOUR VIDEO PREVIEW WINDOW

I didn't figure this out until working in SVP for over a year & WISHED SOMEone had told me this. Un-docking the vid. Preview window makes working in SVP SO MUCH nicer.

1. Resize the SVP to the left half of your comp. screen.

2. Find the X in the top corner of your video preview window & beneath this you see a vertical lineup of dots. Mouse over them & hold down the left-click & mouse drag it all the way over to the top right corner of your comp. screen. When it freaks out docking & undocking, force it up to the top edge/corner until it stops, then let go of the left click & resize it so you see both the tabs & timeline on the left with the perfectly resized position of the Vid Preview window on the right.

Extra Notes:

If it still won't play out, go to the cont. panel's audio/sound settings to view what your default settings are & fiddle with them. I suspect it was a codecs issue.

You should also peek at the minimum system requirements are for SVP 13, (on the direct site) I remember looking at them awhile back & noticed they were a higher requirement than the previous versions. When my PC barely met the requirements, I pulled out a dead LT (comp. screen had broken years back, I never threw away the LT & never replaced the screen, I rather bought a refurb.comp. at a bargain $) I I googled my refurb.LT (either the label on the comp. itself maybe on the bottom) or in the Control Panel type in the search box "SYSTEM" to view your model # info. (Google to see your list of components HD size, ram & # of slots & maximum capacity, etc.)

I saw what the RAM max.was to view if I had to replace or add to any additional slots & took out the ram from the old LT & opened up the panel to reveal the ram slots area & added more ram. This also really helped SVP to work much better.

RENDERING:

I also recommend rendering in the MainConcept AAC/AVC MP4 Internet HD & match your render choice to equal or smaller than your original.

You might copy/paste this whole thing in to a saved doc. so if ever you get a new comp. you can easily go through all these steps to optimize everything for SVP.

If something did work, please return here to add details to mention what did work, so when someone else has your same issue, they find a quick fix much faster.

I hope this helped
