I recommend using 7-Zip. 7-Zip is an open source file archiver with high compression ratio.
I would not recommend WinZip or WinRAR, though they are good, they are not free. They have these annoying trials (though indefinate), it keeps asking you to upgrade.

The KGB archiver is the best. It can compress smaller than 7-zip but it takes a very long time.

7zip for sure. I use it all the time on my computer. Winrar and Winzip are much too commercial and will continuously ask you for you to pay and register.
7zip also has a very large community backing.
