Question:
HELP! Firefox browser crashed, then a window popped up?
2011-02-22 16:35:41 UTC
Hello. I had open 3 tabs on my Firefox and all of a sudden, it shuts down and it shows my desktop, with a window that says "Firefox has crashed, etc. We will try to restore your tabs...you can file a crash report here..etc". Is this normal!? Is it a virus? Should I download the newest version of Firefox? Help, I'm in school, it's going to be finals week soon and I cannot deal with a virus or a crashed computer! I'm freaking out!

This is normal, just click either the "Restart Firefox" or the "Close Firefox button in order to close it.

Here are are few tweaks that will prevent it from crashing in the future.

First, check your add-ons. Go to Tools, then add-ons and in the "Extension" tab uninstall or disable any add-on that you don't use. This includes Java Quick Starter and Microsoft .NET Framework Assistance.

Second, while in add-ons, go to the "Plugins" tab and disable any plugins that cause your browser to slow down. In particular these tree.

-Adobe Acrobat, which bring up PDF files from websites onto your browser. Turning it off will prevent this and your PDF files will open externally.

-get Plus for Adobe. This is not needed.

-Java Platform

-Java Deployment Toolkit (any version)

-MetaStream

-Microsoft DRM

-QuickTime Plugin, which allows you to view QT video on websites

-Realtime HTML 5 Video Shim Plugin

-Shockwave for Director

-Window Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library

and finally, Window Presentation Foundation.

All of the above is not needed.

Third, you can tweak Firefox to run faster on your computer. The link below is video on how to do it.

Don't forget to restart Firefox in order for the changes to take effect.

Fourth, if you download files into your computer, go to Tool then Download and delete to files from the download list.

If you don't want to have any download file in the status bar in the future, go to Tools, then Option. Click on the "Privacy" icon and unchecked the box that says "Remember Download History."

Finally, always, always clean out your recent history, that way Firefox can work faster. Try doing every two weeks or every month, it's up to you. If you don't how to clean out your browsing history, the video link below will show you how.

This measure works well with all versions.

I hope this information is very helpful.

Good luck and happy browsing

The window in question, if I am not mistaken is just a window allowing recovery of the tabs you had open. It is a part of FF, when it crashes. As for why fox crashed, I have found that the new beta 4 is really temperamental, but 3.6 has crashed some for me also. As for it being a virus or other issue of like kind, who knows, to be safe since its finals time, do thorough virus scan with your AV, and then do malware scan with what ever you use for ad-ware removal. I have read where a site called "Malware Bites" has met with good reviews. IDK, never tried it.

I wouldn't freak yet, just do your scans, update and reboot.

IE and Firefox are seperate classes, there for they gained't reason one yet another to crash. I looks such as you have some form of mal ware on your workstation. You maximum probable have a deadly disease. i could acquire a unfastened anti virus software and test. Then, once you have an thought of what you're dealing with, i could shop around and stumble on a robust anti-virus software. i will whether warn against homestead windows defender. it truly is thru a ways between the least sensible anti virus classes available. Norton is a robust and sensible one. yet another answer, is to apply the backup functionality on your workstation, if it truly is a clean situation. it is going to erase all documents up till 5 days previoius ( uncertain on the timeframe, sorry). that would properly be effective in case you purely began to be conscious the venture. Worst case state of affairs, you have a pair viruses, quite a few spyware, mal ware, spyware, and so on. shop what you like off of your workstation and wipe it. Thats incredibly a lot what they did for mine on the workstation shop and that i had to pay 350 for it.

REBOOT THE PC

Run Internet Explorer

Make it the Default and to ask if it is, every time

Close IE

Open Firefox

Tell it that it is the default program

Did that clear it? Edit your post if it did not.
