Hi there!

Try this:

In the my computer window, search for your drive, double click on it. The drive content (here, the single shortcut) will be shown. Now go to Organize menu, from there select folder & search options. In folder & search options, under view tab, un-check the option "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)". now click OK. Then again click the OK button to proceed. Refresh the drive & click on the shortcut.

Voila...!! :)

Uh oh.. Are you sure the files were on that pen drive at one time? The only way you may retrieve them is to use a program like GetDataBack which will even get files back from a formatted drive. Maybe someone else will have a better answer.

the problem was same , shortcut displayed as you explore the flash drive, and it happened after i got it from commercial place doing scanning of documents, -- the files would be shown on clicking this shortcut, i tried to upload this new files to Gmail, it showed in red words rundll.exe not allowed to upload: this(shortcut) .exe files was a virus from the PC of commercial establishment, and I formatted the flash drive, got the work done at other place again. and luckily no more virus seen.... I think win7 with defender takes care

Yes your computer is infacted virus. If you install antivirus will remove virus. But computer will work slow and other problem also.

So format C drive (quick doesnt metter) and install operating system in c drive. But don't open other drives D, E etc before installing antivirus. Because virus of that drive will infact ur pc again. So scan ur pc after os installation too.

If there no important data in other drive you can format them while partition creation. But my above step saves data execlude exe files.

(infacted exe file will removed antivirus if not recoverable. And this may cause your program not work)

1. Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

2. What happens when you try to use the pen drive in different computer?

3. Do you have any security software installed on the computer?

This might be caused due to virus on the computer.

Perform the following troubleshooting methods:

Method 1:

Download any try version of good commercial antivirus (i.e Quick Heal)

Method 2:

Run the fix it from the link “Diagnose and repair Windows File and Folder Problems automatically” and check if this fixes the issue

by following the official website of microsoft :

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_file_and_folder_diag/en-us

Method 3:

open cmd (by pressing "Windows+R" and then type cmd presss ENTER) and then type the following command in command prompt

attrib –r –a –s –h /s /d K:\*.*

where K is the dirve letter of your pen drive

!!..Good Luck..!!

Yes, Jitendra ... Just to add more (what I experienced):

This for sure behaves like a virus, I too got my Pen drive infected from a public computer.

For those guys who knows how to create invisible folder, by "Alt+255" would be easier.

You may try these steps:

DIR /AH /W :

this would display system... & " "

now type the following to retrieve your hidden folder(s):

E: (Drive letter of your detected pen drive)

ATTRIB -r -a -s -h " " ---> Be sure to type by:-> Press & hold down ALT then type from numeric keypad 255 ( 2 5 5 ) then release the ALT key.

now type

DIR /w

now check if you see something like "[ ]" --> This is your hidden folder.

Now simply type this to rename the folder:

REN " " "Folder" (This space to be typed as ALT+255, as done above)

You can now delete the .lnk file ...

DEL *.lnk /p

(Prompt to be sure only one .lnk file is deleted).

Smart Virus ... moves all your files to this hidden folder and gives you a link to access your own folder.
