Question:
How do I fix a corrupted Microsoft Access 2007 database?

Last Monday, the database was working. Tuesday, every effort to access a file is greeted with "record is deleted." Please note: I am NOT an IT guy and I inherited this project from my predecessor. I looked online and found a lot of folks talking about how to fix the problem, but none of them sent answers that a computer layman can understand. I used AccessFIX from Cimaware to repair/restore the database, but the file that the program generated looks nothing like what we use. I've spent days trying to get support from them, but apparently customer updates are not among the services that they offer.

Can anyone recommend an online tutorial, or offer some direction on how to repair a corrupted database?

Tools menu, Database utilities, compact and repair database option.

Always work on a copy when trying to repair.

Note the data tables are not necessarily in the application database, they could be in another linked mdb, or a sql server datasource or oracle, or almost anywhere.

This has worked for me many times....create a new database. In your new database go to File > Get External Data. Find your corrupt database and import all the tables, queries, etc into your new database. Sometimes that is all it takes. Other times I have had to import a few objects at a time to try to find what if there was a particular table or form that was causing the issue.

TIP: always design your databases using a front end (all the user forms, queries, reports) and a backend (tables). Link the backend database's tables to the front end database Keeps thing much more stable.

1) Repairing a banged-up database takes skills and experience that a layman just doesn't have.

2) Use the backup you made on Monday night. (You don't back up every night? You will from now on - with your new start-from-scratch database, right?)

If the Access Repair function doesn't repair the database, there's nothing you (as a layman) can do to fix it. (You can hire someone to fix it, but how much can a database that you don't bother backing up be worth?)

it will not work due to the fact that database 2003 dont have the features that access 2007 have and it will not come out right when you try to open with 2007. you would have to do it all over again to make it the way you want it

I dunno Access much, but I have found a good resource in the forums at mrexcel.com. There is a section for Access questions, and those folks really know their stuff.
