Question:
Does Word 2007 damages your files?
2009-01-26 16:01:17 UTC
I've been stuck in some works forever, because my ".doc" files keep getting damaged whenever I stick the USB Memory on the PC.

I need to move from computer to computer (depending on the daytime) and I always take my memory (now I switched it, but I still have the same problems).

Eventually in my office, I use Word 98 (the computers are neglected with the old Windows 2000) and in my home I have Word 2007 (which probably is too advanced)... I'm thinking about "Open Office", as in, the transition from "too old" to "too new" might damage the files?

I don't want to loose 2007 without a clear answer. I'm seriously thinking about Open Office, because I'm going nuts with these damaged files (which I can't recover by any means).

Can somebody help me?

It doesn't damage the files. If you try to open a Word 2007 file with an older version of Word then the file looks corrupted (or "damaged"). It's not either. It's simply because the older version can't open it. All you need to do is download the compatibility pack for the older software OR you can just save your 2007 files in a lower version (click save as, then select the "97-2003 document" selection.

You have the option to save Word documents (produced in Word 2007) in compatible Office 97-2003 format. Don't simply click Save - look for the option

Word files are damage, due to several reason like, virus attacks, unexpected system shutdown or in case of accidentally deleted Word files. But don't panic. I recommended an excellent or effective software, you can use Kernel for Word Repair Tool. It can easily recover all corrupt, damage word files documents. No it doesn't "damage" your files.

When you save files on your word 2007 there should be an option where you can convert or change the file so it is compatible with the old versions of microsoft word.

install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack so that you can use earlier versions of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word to open and to save files from 2007 Office programs

You could have a virus. I would download a avg virus software. If you have a virus click heal it then delete it from the vault.

But word doesn't mess any files. It could be a lot of things.

If Microsoft Word application works fine as expected in application safe, you may follow the method mentioned in the following post and check if it helps.
