How can I install programs in linux without internet access?

i have a main laptop running ubuntu and fluxbox and another laptop runing fluxbuntu...the fluxbuntu laptop is a very old compaq and i dont have internet access with it...i plan on using it for simple programing but would like to add a few other programs...how can i do this without internet access...is there a way to transfer programs with u usb stick? or some other method?

Try checking out APTonCD. It's a graphical user interface that allows you to create a custom CD, DVD, or ISO image repository, which can easily be transfered between computers. You can read more about it at:

Buy default Ubuntu will install packages that are included on install disk if it is in the drive. You can look in /etc/apt/sources.list to see if a cdrom entry in there. If not you can add it with "apt-cdrom add" command. If it is package not on the cdrom you can download packages manually from http://packages.ubuntu.com/ The problem with that is have to download all dependences manually too. I did find a how-to for creating a repository DVD that looks like should help you. The link is below.

In addition to getting programs off the internet, if you check out your local major magazine chain you should see magazines like "Linux Format", "Linux Magazine (Linux Pro in the US)" and others that have DVDs included with the magazine. Those DVDs often have additional software, not just distros, so they are another valid source.
