Download DVD's on to PC?

Question

How do I download a DVD that I have, onto my PC. I need it for editing purposes. I used to have Roxio Easy media Creator 9, but it got deleted from my system. Is there anyway I can do this, without having to BUY anything? Can't remember how to do it without Roxio. Thanks in advance. D.

It depends on how you want to edit the resulting DVD. If you want to cut pieces of video out for further use, or if you want to edit the entire video.



First of all, you need to "demux" the DVD, that means demultiplexing the video, audio and subtitle streams to seperate files.



The result will then be a m2v video file, an ac3 audio file(if it's digital on the dvd) and .sub files for each language subtitle on the DVD.



Then you can inport these seperate files in a movie editor and edit the movie to your needs.



if you do a search on the net for the software package(free) PgcDemux, you will find the tools to do the first (demuxing) part. The editing needs to be done in another program, but I use Adobe Premiere, wich is not free...
