How do I set my computer to be able to open a jpg file?

The microsoft photo editor opens but says "unknown file format". Previously, I am able to open this kind of file but I am surprised that I am not able to open it now. Can anyone advise me on how to set my computer to open this file? I have a microsoft photo editor and an HP photosmart essential installed in my PC.

right click a jpg file and go to properties. then click the "change" button and select a previewing program. usually it's windows picutre and fax veiwer

Right Click that file u want to open , select open with

and then Select Windows Picture and Fax viewer

Below that there will be an option

"Always use this program to open this type of file"

tick that check box

hello friend,try to open ti in windows picture and fax viewer by right click the img file and open it with or change its property to that. pls check any possible istallation error while installing MS office. also uninstall any new photo editor sw if u installed recently...
