Question:
Where can I get a Windows 8 64-bite Core ISO?

I'm currently running Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop, but the university I plan to study next year demands I have Windows running on it.

My laptop originally came with Windows 8 installed on it, so I have an Activation Key for Windows 8.

The only problem I have now is that I need an untouched ISO file of Windows 8 Core (i.e., not Pro or any other special edition; just the regular one) 64-bit, as that is the only version my key will work with.

- I cannot seem to find it on Torrent sites (in my home country it is legal to download anything you've technically already paid for). All results there are either for Windows 8.1, or a Pro edition of Windows 8.
- I've tried a method that requires a program found here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only (from Microsoft) However, when I install this on my parents' laptop and fill in my or their Key, I get an error stating that the key is not valid to obtain a retail version of Windows 8. Whatever that may mean.

So, is there any other way I can get an (official) ISO of Windows 8?
I'm a little short on money, so I cannot afford to just buy another copy of Windows 8.

Many people may suggest you purchase the key directly from ms, but not me.

I have to share my terrible experience with ms.

I wanted to purchase a windows 8.1 pro license via paypal months ago, but never got it. so I posted a question on ms community. one guy, might from ms, gave me a link. but it was broken. then i tried hard to call the ESD number and got disconnected several time after explaining to the person on the other end my problem, he said he was going to put me on hold while he looked into my problem without even taking any information from me like my email address, or any other info that I used to make the purchase, then I found my self in a continuous loop of people that didn't know jack ****. Once I asked to speak with a supervisor, the person I was connected to told me I would need to file a dispute using paypal. I've never had a more disappointing experience with a Microsoft product.

Then I gave up ms. Later I posted another question on tomshardware. One guy highly recommended http://www.windowspremiumkey.com

to me.

at first I was a bit skeptical about their service , cause I don't knew them, are they any good and trustworthy?

those were my biggest concerns.

so I decided to contact their support service to get some info about them ,as to my surprise, Their customer support staff, responded to me with in the hour or so, answering to all of my questions, made me fell like I'm doing the right choice of being involved with them.

Therefore, I decided to try them out, and bought Windows 8.1 Pro from them using Pay-pal.

Their customer support staff, send me an email with the Windows 8.1 Pro CD Key right away , and they have also provided me with a download link from Microsoft.com to download the operating system within that 24hours period before the link goes death.

the rest was easy , everything worked like a charm, I managed to complete my installations within a few hours, and planning to buy again.

Their staffs are quick and responsive which is a good thing for an online business.

so I highly recommend http://www.windowspremiumkey.com

and was very happy with them and would recommend them to anyone.

One thing that you mentioned is that your University demands you to have it. If they do, check with their IT department, they should offer each student one license of many microsoft products...

other than that, there is no such thing as an "official" ISO of Windows 8.

In case your university doesn't give students free licenses....You mentioned you "technically already paid for it"...follow the link below to transfer the license from one pc to the other.

You're using a product key to update to Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, but a previous version of Windows wasn't installed on your PC. To update, you need to have Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP already on your PC.

If what bill and me h said doesn't work, unfortunately you are out of luck. The product key that came with your laptop probably only works with the copy of Windows 8 preinstalled on your laptop. Since you already erased this copy, it will no longer work with any Windows 8 copies you get; even official ones.

You might try a system restore disk from your computer manufacturer.
