Ok, here's the the deal. I had this problem, but actually solved it myself. I got tired of looking for the reason, so i feel like i owe people out there the time a mutli billion dollar company has a lot of people pulling going nuts trying to find for themselves.

The problem was, I could not find my Iphone device in Itunes. I tried at least 7 different options apple gave me and i ended up solving it myself when i was directed to an area apple actually told me to skip over if everything looked like it was in working order.

This issue has to do with the apple's usb device manager having to be reinstalled (even though it says it is installed and working). Hopefully, this solves your issue and you won't have to spend 3
hours trying to solve it.

Go to CONTROL PANEL
Go to DEVICE MANAGER

When DEVICE MANAGER IS OPEN you will notice at the bottom there
is a option which states ''Universal Serial Bus Controllers" (aka USB).

Double click on it and it will fold out and you will see :
"Apple Mobile Device Controller"

Right Click that option. Click UPDATE DRIVER SOFTWARE

Choose the BROWSE MY COMPUTER FOR SOFTWARE OPTION

When the NEXT window OPENS BROWSE TO THE FOLLOWING LOCATION

This is the final step, but you will have to REBOOT.

All you are doing is looking for ONE FILE '

BROWSE TO
PROGRAM FILES/COMMON FILES/APPLE/MOBILE DEVICE SUPPORT/DRIVERS

SELECT THE FILE THERE SHOULD ONLY BE ONE NAMED usbaapl.inf

Select it and reboot. Hope this helped, solved my problem instantly.

My computer-Win 10 with iTunes 12.3.3.17.

Win 10 would show iPhone as a removeable drive.

iTunes would not find iPhone but I had had NO problems until the 12.3.3.17 upgrade as iTunes would backup my phone & sync to Outlook. It would not do this with 12.3.3.17.

I deleted & re-installed iTunes-NO help.

I then deleted everything in my computer that indicated Apple or iTunes.

I then installed iTunes 12.3.3.17 & it foundd the iPhone 5, backed up & sync'ed as it had been doing before.

I got this from southtigereyes post from 4 years ago.

Thanks Apple for my 2 hours of un-necessary work. I only use iTunes to back up our 2 iPhones. I might change phones as this is a pain in the rear.
