How can you get the Header & Footer to only appear on the first page of a Microsoft Word document?

I'm writing a letter which is so far 3 pages long, but the Header & Footer is appearing on all pages, but I would like it on just the first.

Any ideas on how to do this?

Insert a section break at the top of the next page.

As you have already put the header/footer in, open header and footer again by just double clicking on it, no need to go View, Header & Footer, cut what you have put there already so it disappears. Now click on the Page Set up icon that appears on the header and footer toolbar, place a tick in the box against the different first page box then copy back into the first header or footer what you cut and it will show on first page only, not the others.

The header & footer in a Microsoft Word document appears on all the pages of the documaent. You cannot put it on just one page. A better idea would be to make one document with one page of your letter with a header & footer and then make another document with the rest of your letter without a header & footer. This way when you print both the documents your letter will have three pages, the first page including the header & footer and the rest without them.

Hope this helps =)

Here is a link. Sometimes I cheat and create seperate Word file for the 1st page w/ the header & footer, and another file for the rest of the document.

On the page setup menu tick the box for different header on first page. Then put the header you want in the first page and remove from the rest.
