Check on Device Manager for missing display driver, if yes download the driver from your pc or laptop manufacturer's website. If you cannot fix this, restore on earlier Service Pack version or re-format your computer with Service Pack 3 Windows installer.

When the updates installed it might have updated your graphics card. Go to the manufacturers website and download and install an updated graphics driver. You can also try going into the device manager then right click display adapter then properties and roll back the driver.

Now, if your background is that, try changing it or you could have an invalid copy of windows. You could also have a dumb bug or a non windows modification messing with it. Try a system restore to before you updated if possible.
