I have a Pentium 4 pc with 2 GB ram.
I am using Windows XP (Home) Edition with Service Pack 3.
I have for some while now been using Mozilla Firefox web browser as it is by far a faster web browser than Internet Explorer. I cannot pin point when there has been a clash between Mozilla Firefox web browser and ms office but I noticed that the pc was running extremely slow.
This is the series of events that I follow:
1. I boot up pc and wait for everything to start up as normal
2. I then open Norton Antivirus software which opens fine
3. I then open Excel which opens fine
4. I then open Mozilla Firefox web browser which takes a round 2 minutes but stalls. What I see is an incomplete home page.
5. I close Mozilla Firefox web browser down and reopen it which opens fine
6. I then try to open Excel but this fails to open and instead I get the message ‘Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem’.
7. I then try an open Word and it opens but I don’t see flashing cursor so I am unable to type
8. I then try and open Norton Antivirus software and the screen opens and this time it is incomplete
9. I then log off and on again (at this stage I do not do a proper ‘boot up’)
10. Mozilla Firefox web browser opens fine but again cannot use Excel or Word and Norton Antivirus software again fails to fully open.
Then only way I can use office is if I do a proper ‘boot up’ and follw the same procedure as before but instead choose not to open Mozilla Firefox web browser. If I do this, then MS Office works fine. The problem starts once I try to open Mozilla Firefox web browser. In doing so there is a very serious performance problem which seems to be affecting the memory (guessing)!
As I say, this HAS been working fine for sometime now.
I have tried the following:
1. reinstall MS Office,
2. do system restore
3. and ran full virus scan but all these actions fails to allow pc to run Mozilla Firefox web browser and MS Office working fine side by side.
Has anyone got any suggestions?
