I have windows 7 ultimate already installed. I heard they are giving free updates to existing users. But the problem is that the version of windows i have isn't genuine. If i opt for update on windows official website, will it cause any problems for me? And if it will, what will be the problems? Thanks!

If your existing Windows 7 Ultimate is not genuine, then you will not get a genuine licensed copy of Windows 10. The easiest way to resolve this is to just purchase a genuine Product Key and install it on your Windows 7 machine and then you can download a copy of Windows 10 and install it, free.

There are a number of very, very affordable sites that offer legitimate OEM licensed Product Keys here. One that is often mentioned is FREVVY. You can check them out here, http://www.frevvy.com. I believe a Product Key for Windows 7 Ultimate is going for about $32.00.

Depending on what existing version of Windows that you have prior to upgrading to Windows 10 will determine what version of Windows 10 you are using. See attached.

Once you get your legal licensed you then can download Microsoft's Media Creation Tools that will download Windows 10 to your computer. You then can either burn the ISO to a DVD or install it to a USB stick and then install from there.

Go here to get the Media Creation Tool and Windows 10, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

Good Luck!

Buy your license from www.Microsoft.com/store.

Anywhere else and you risk Microsoft not recognising the license. Then you have non-genuine software AND a non genuine license.

There is NO free upgrade to pirated (you might call it non-genuine, others call it stolen) software.

It's going to check so it's going to know it isn't genuine and thus won't allow it to install.
