Hi,

I have just installed a new PC (home build) with a Gigabyte motherboard and a few new things. My previous setup I could run my screen on 1920x1080, but with this setup the higest resolution I can chose in the windows control panel is 1400x1050. Is there a way to get this to 1920x1080 again?

My new setup includes:
Windows 7 Home Edition
Gigabyte motherboard.
Ati Radeon 6850 HD 1 GB
Samsung SyncMaster 2233SN (21.5inches widescreen)
The screen has a blue VGA output. I need to put a grey piece inbetween to hook it up directly to my grafics card (because my motherboard has a smal onboard grafics card).
The grey piece looks like this: http://pcdownload.asia/Dvi-to-VGA-adapter2.jpg

So how can I get back to the sharper 1920x1080 with this setup?

Thanks

First, Try installing your video card drivers if you haven't already.

Then use the Ati control panel to change the Resolution if it still doesn't work.

Or you could go to the advanced options of the desktop properties, select the adapter tab, then click "list all modes" and see if it's avaliable.

VGA most definitely supports the resolution you are trying to use. I would suggest looking to see if there is a newer driver available for your video card. Also, some built-in GPUs share the system RAM and allow you to set how much RAM they use. It could be as simple as setting the amount of RAM dedicated to the GPU to a higher amount in the BIOS.

I would also suggest trying to change the resolution in the Catalyst Control panel vs using the standard windows control panel.

If none of those does it, there are various utilities that you can download to create custom resolutions (i.e. Powerstrip). Be advised however, that improper use of such utilities can damage your monitor.
