Ok, I have this unwanted houseguest who is my hubby's best friend. Every time he gets on my computer, it's always messed up somehow. I tell him constantly to stay off of it, but he never listens to me! He was on it all day yesterday, and when I got home from work, it was messed up again. First, my paint program isn't working. Everytime I click on it, it says "failed to create empty document." Is there a way I could reinstall it? I no longer have any of the installation discs that came with the computer, so I'm completely screwed! Also, I can't right-click on anything! Whener I want to copy text or pictures to the clipboard, it won't let me. I know I can use the ctrl+c shortcut, but I really want my mouse to work again! Any tips on these 2 issues?

If you are on XP, hope that system restore is enabled

Start / progs / accessories / system tools / system restor

Run it

Chose Restore to previous daye

Set it to go back to a date b4 he game, hopefully that will be all it needs

Also SET A PASSWORD on the PC, and make a new user ID for Hubby dear to use, and have your own.

The make sure HIS account DOES NOT have admin rights, in fact make it guest/limited level

Then they CANNOT screw it up again

Every answer on here has good ideas. Here is another I think is good;

Creat a guest account. Make sure it can't download or access anything important. Make a bitmap wallpaper that says; "This is because you keep messing up my PC." and place it as wallpaper on the guest acct. (You can do that if you store the thing in shared accounts.) You can, if you want, deny access to the internet, too. If you need any help, you can message me. It is a simple thing to do.

Have you tried restoring your computer? Your computer should make regular restore points for cases like this... just find one set to a date before the comp started messing up and see what happens... Also, try running a virus scan and spyware scan.

you need to completely lock down your computer.. that would PISS me off if my wife had a friend over and she messed up my computer! first put a password in the bios that comes up right when the computer is turned on.. then set another password to log into windows.. make it so that it's impossible to do anything in the computer without a password.. don't give the password to your husband or he will just give it to his friend.. if he doesn't like it tell him it's because his friend keeps messing up your computer..

First of all

Make sure you need a password to sign on

Second

Do a system restore to the day before he used it.

Can you afford to buy a laptop and hide it in your closet so that no one (no one as in no one) knows it exists? I'd do that. If you can't beat them, escape. It is less combative and you have the last laugh. AAAaaaaarghhh !!!!
