You can print out any printable file to a pdf file using PrimoPDF. It works flawlessly and is free. I have used if for years and it works fine. It simply becomes one of your printer choices in the print menu. It is available at http://www.primopdf.com/.

When converting a web page to pdf you'll see that there are glitches, depending not only on the browser you're using but also on the pdf writer and in the way itself the webpage was created (try printing a page with transparent pngs to pdf from IE 6 and see the results). This is why the recommended thing is to have IE and FireFox installed, and also at least 2 pdf writers. Primopdf is good so you can use it too (or PDFCreator) but since they're using Ghostscript you have to install one that's not using it, like doPDF (or if you're using the new Office 2007 the free add-in) - this way if one fails to convert correctly you have the option to use the second one.
