When I start MS word 2008 for mac the toolbar is missing. I checked in view > toolbars > standard it is checked, but nowhere to be found on the document. I have to uncheck it and check it again for it to work, but it will only show me the "new" and "open" icons before I start typing. It seems to be hidden for no reason even though it is checked on the view menu.

Click the small oval button in the upper right corner of the document window. It toggles the toolbar on and off.

In the upper right corner, click on the box with the arrow in it. Then select "Show tabs" or " Show tabs and commands." Your toolbar will stay permanent until you change it.
