Alternative to crappy *** adobe flash player?

I was wondering if there is an alternative to adobe flash player. Flash used to work good but it seems like ever since flash 10 its just a huge piece of crap. Flash videos lag and buffer constantly (or just doesn't load them entirely), sometimes it'll display things (like in hotmail) but I can't click on any of the links including my inbox. I'm updated all the way to flash 11 and I'm just really tired of their lousy program and I'm hoping they at least have a competitor. Of course if they didn't it would explain how they get away with releasing such trash software.
