I have a Sony Vaio laptop and recently updated to Windows 8.1. All of a sudden I'm having problems with my computer's brightness setting. It has adaptive brightness, and usually dims/brightens a little bit to suit the environment the laptop is in (aka if it's in a dark/light room). After the Windows 8.1 update if I move the laptop a little bit from the area its in, the brightness will go from 100% to 0% brightness. In control panel I disabled adaptive brightness both in the balanced and power saver areas but the problem is still occurring. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Some laptops have an option in BIOS to force things like "Adaptive Brightness" on or off.

If your Vaio has this option, then your problem will be ultimately solved!

I hope this helps.
