VM Ware is a virtual software usually used by IT engineers for networking through which u can create a virtual computer inside your own computer and can install your favourite operation system and can work more smoothly than your real system. VM = Virtual Machines. VMware is a trade name but is often used to refer to any virturalization software in general. The multi-tasking capability of Windows is in itself making use of virutal machines. In the good ol' day, you can only run one application at a time in DOS. With Windows, however, you can run MS Office, Photoshops, IE and play with your favourite Solitaire all at the same time.

We have today several popular virtualization platforms (VMware, Xen, Virtualbox, KVM, etc) that run as a guest system under either a Linux or MS operating system. One distinct advantages (or main usages) of these virtualization plaforms is for software development and testing. For instance, a Linux newbie wants to install a distro in his XP pre-installed desktop. He can either go through the process by installating it side-by-side with his existing XP or by installing it in a virutal machine. Doing the former may involve repartitioning of a harddisk, creating dual boot and has the inherent risks of rendering the existing XP system unusable. Using the latter option, the installation will be done in a separated layer on top of the existing XP without any needs to alter the existing hardware setup. It is essentially risk free to the existing system (unless of course you delibrately choose to link up or share certain resources which you have no ideas about its implications).

One rare but innovative usage of VM is to find out how your computer will behave after infected by a virus. You can of course test it in your real system and keeps your fingers crossed that System Restore will do the job after you have had enough fun or you can test it in an exact duplicate of your system in a virutal machines.

VMware is a virtualization software developed by VMware, Inc. VMware Player is one of the products which allows you to run multiple instances of OS. 1. Run multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single PC 2. Experience the benefits of preconfigured products without any installation or configuration hassles 3.Share data between host computer and virtual machine You need to download virtual appliances which are like images of the OS that you need to feed to the VMWare playe which in turn will emulate the OS from the virtual appliance. Most of the Linux flavors are available as virtual appliances. You can even emulate Windows Server in your desktop. There are several appliances available in market based on all kinds of fields.
