windows installer problem...plz help?

i tried to install windows installer 3.1,.....n in between the error occurs "access denied". i had logged in as admin,.....n aslo i had turned off the firewall. but still the same problem occurs. m not understanding wht is causin it. and how to avoid it.i need windows installer 3.1 to install windows live messenger .

Were there any messages in the system eventlog?

ENsure that there is no virus/adware/spyware etc. running in the background and interrupting your tasks! Get a good malware scanner (AVG or Avast! to keep away virus and Spybot S&D or AdAware to keep adware/spyware away)
