I want it to always just start with times new roman, 12 font, and double spaced. Is there a way to make it do that? I'm tired of changing it every time I open Word.

Double spacing is a paragraph style issue, not a font issue. Here's the general way to fix both:

1. Click in an affected paragraph.

2. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon.

3. Click the arrow in the lower right corner of the Styles section.

4. The style for your paragraph should have a bold box around it. You may have to scroll down to find it.

5. Hover the cursor over the style. A listbox arrow should appear. Click it.

6. Select Modify from the list box.

7. Click the Format button and select Paragraph.

8. Set the Line Spacing to Double.

9. Click OK.

10. Click the Format button again, this time selecting Font.

11. Make the changes you want to the font.

12. Click OK.

13. If you want this to carry forward to other documents based on the template this one is based on, click the radio button for New Documents Based On This Template.

14. OK out of everything.

All paragraphs in the document with that style should adjust themselves.

When you close your document, you may see a warning message asking if you want to save the changes to Normal.dotx. This is an anti-virus measure, intended to alert you that something has changed in Normal.dotx. In this case, you made the change, so you want to accept it.

That should do it.

1. Launch Word. To open the Font dialog box, either click the button in the lower right corner of the "Font" group or press Ctrl-d .

2. Choose the font type and size that you want to be the default every time you open Word.

3. In the bottom left corner of the Font window, click Default... .

4. When prompted to confirm, click Yes.

Set the default font

When you set a default font, every new document you open will use the font settings that you selected and set as the default. The default font applies to new documents that are based on the active template, usually Normal.dotm. You can create different templates to use different default font settings.

Note In Word, you can also quickly and easily format an entire document to give it a professional and modern look by applying a document theme. A document theme is a set of formatting choices that can include a color scheme (a set of colors), a font scheme (a set of heading and body text fonts), and an effects scheme (a set of lines and fill effects).

Set the default font

Start with a blank document, or if your document already contains text that is formatted with the properties that you want to use, select that text.

1.On the Home tab, click the Font Dialog Box Launcher, and then click the Font tab.

2.Select the options that you want to apply to the default font, such as font style and font size. If you selected text in step 1, the properties of the selected text are set in the dialog box.

3.Click Set As Default, and then click OK.
