I use a very interesting small program to monitor my incoming mails. It can delete unwanted mails from the server without downloading it to inbox. It can be used to send mails as well. Easy to install. The website: www.poppeeper.com

Note about thunderbird, I think it's kinda weird to use personally and it logs you in without you putting in a password. Plus it takes all your emails fron your account and into Thunderbird so you won't have anything in your inbox when you log on to the site you've made your e-mail on. (Sorry if this is how every program works. I used it once and it deleted all the e-mails in my mail box and put them into thunderbird and I didn't like that)

If you want you can try it at : http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Thunderbird. It's free, easy and I find it to be more stable than Outlook. Give it a try and you will love it. I use it for both personal and my business.
