I have a Dell Dimension 8400, it has always worked well, with McAfee loaded as anti virus. I came home today and had the blue screen of death. I restarted the computer and nothing. I've attempted to start in safe mode..nothing, the night before I reloaded Windows media player. I've went into the bios and tried to repair it from disk and it doesn't seem to work. Is there anyway I can at least save some data? Before I try to reload the entire windows?
If I reload windows, will the data still be there, or does it write over everything?
Thanks

Thats why i always say buy a mac anyway heres what i think your problems mcafee is a good antiVIRUSE there are lots of problems that mcafee cant handle such as spyware there are many spayware that mcafee cant detecit if you could log into safe mode find everything you need and transfer it to a external hard disk and install a fresh copy of windows

if you cant the BIOS wont help you it only sets different types of pirorety there is a program called recuva that recovers deleted file it work for files you have deleted

it gets almost 95% of it but i dont know if it works when you re install windows i have a trick when you install windows install it on the same hard disk as your old files dont format the hard disk then after you install it your computer should load then go to my computer then your hard disk then doucuments and settings you will find your old user name enter it and put all your files to an external hard disk IMPORTANT if it is a viruse that caused your problem so scan all your files before putting them in your external hard disk after that format your hard disk and install windows again some viruses cant go away with just re-installing windows so after you install windows again scan it with mcafee and superantispyware.com thats about it , i am programmer

Well, since you have a Dell computer, you can call Dell and (if it's still under warranty, sometimes they allow exceptions if you don't have warranty) they will send you a package with CD's that include installing some software and the Windows XP\Vista Recovery Disk. If you boot from the CD, it will give you the option of repairing Windows XP\Vista and allow you not to lose any data. But if the repair does not work, you'll have to reinstall and lose all your data in the process.

if u have a nice buddy ask if u can put your hard drive in his computer. this will void both warrentes. if his starts with your hard drive its probly the ram or some thing else if it is harddrive, pardon my langerage but u screwed the pouch on that on. i would take it to the nearest computer shop if u want warenties intact. they put new warrentie stickers on so u can send or take it to place u bought for repare or exchange. might be a trojan virus. my cousin had a trident trojan virus and had to pay a grand to get if fixed. it was a 700$ computer. he had a payed version on norton active. that was the blue screen of death to

more than likely all of your data will be gone. i have reloaded a computer several times, all of the data was still there. all you can do is reload windows, see what happens.

U connect ur hard disk to any other system. and take ur data and then u re-install ur o/s.

or

Repair ur o/s

or

In which parti. u saved ur data.

If u saved data in D:

and ur o/s saved in C:

so u format C: and reload ur o/s on C:

and ur data will be saved in D:

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
