XP needs at least 128 MB of RAM just to function at all. 256 is the actual minimum for functionality, and 512 is where it get's ideal. 64 mb could easily run windows 98/ME. What they should have recommended was an upgrade to Windows 2000 and aligth RAM upgrade. Win 2k can run quite well on 384k.

Your shop (or you) could have downloaded a hardware compatibility tool from microsoft.com that would list any system hardware that was not compatible with xp before even starting the upgrade.

It sounds to me like your shop does not know what they are doing but they are also screwing you for more money. With the cost of the RAM and video card you could have bought a new computer from Dell Outlet that would probably run circles around your current computer.

it will work. when you buy a computer, the copy of vista on it is yours. legally it can only be one computer at a time so you should be ok.
