I have a Windows 8 (other specs aren't important), and my laptop wont let me alter my Program Files (X86) Folder. I'm trying to clean out the bigger unused files and programs on my computer, and when I try to delete anything from this folder, I get an error message reading 'You require permission SYSTEM to make changes to this folder.' The same happens when I try to use 'uninstall a program' in the control panel. Can someone please explain to me why I dont have permission to change files on my own computer, and any way I can fix it? Wether it be just changing a setting, or downloading file unlockers, I just need this fixed.

P.S. Just to make it clear, my profile is only one on the PC, and it has administrator permissions.

Right Click "Program Files(x86)" folder and click on Security tab.

Click on "Edit" button and select "Users" and check Full control check box and Click OK.

Hope this will solve the problem.

If not try clicking "Advanced" in the security tab and try changing permissions.

Could be a permissions block from OEM or a corrupted permissions database.

You can reset your permissions database to default by following the instructions in this video:

If you don't have start8, classicshell etc and have no start menu then just press win + r then type cmd.

try to start windows in safe mode. reboot your computer and start pressing F8. till a menu appears. Select safe mode and then login into your account. and then try to delete the files.
