I'm just beginning with photoshop CS6 and I'm struggling with something in a project that should be simple, but I can't figure it out or find the answer online. "Help me Yahoo community, you're my only hope."

I need to draw a circle within a circle within a circle within a circle etc etc.
I need to give the circle lines different weights and colours and I need to change the colour of the fills.
Imagine if you will a diagram of the Earth's cross-section. That's roughly what I'm going for.

I don't want each circle on a different layer though, it would be way too hectic.
I can't figure out how to change the properties of one shape in the layer without changing all the others.
It's super frustrating.
Can anyone explain how to do this? If you have a link to an article explaining it, that would work just as well.

Thanks in advance.

Right - you can't change the properties for those circles because those are layer properties, and you're trying to do all the circles all in one layer.

I GUARANTEE you that after you get used to layers you will LOVE them. Their purpose is to save rework. If you draw 4 of those circles all in one layer, and then decide you want to change the second one, you have to backtrack in the history list, change that second layer, and the do circles 3 and 4 over again.

Put each circle in its own layer one at a time and give them whatever properties you like.

Layers are definitely a better solution. Select the circle tool in Photoshop and select the shape option from the top bar and apply the circles in different colors (by changing the fill property - again, along the top bar of Photoshop) and apply with different sizes and then go the layer palette and align them all to the same center - and then flatten the image via the layer menu - you can find some videos on the subject via youtube

Hi,

You can download photoshop here: http://j.mp/1p342R0

I'm a graphic designer and photoshop is my loyal buddy when I am at work. It's the leading software for photo editing and I use it to for all my projects. With photoshop you can to edit images, retouch pictures, make photo collages, apply effects, filters, add frames, text, etc. It can be difficult to use it if you are a newbie, but if you just need to do simple editing (e.g. resize and crop images, change colors) it's still the best tool to use.
