If you use Windows. Go to View > Show duplicates, then you need to unselect songs that you don't want to delete manually one by one.

There's a program to help you clean iTunes from duplicate songs easily called iDeduper:

It's not free though, but it will save your time with Auto mark feature that will automatically select duplicates but one on each duplicates groups.

it is a tiresome process.

if you're on a mac go to the FIle drop down menu and hit the option key. you should see "show exact duplicates"

then you will have the fun job of deleting every other song to eliminate your duplicates.

a windows machine should be the same process but probably using the alt key.

to prevent this from happening in the future go to your preferences and select "keep itunes music folder organized." this will identify and duplicates that you try to import into itunes. It will also copy any music that is a part of your library but located in a different folder to the itunes folder, possibly resulting in duplicate files on your computer. unfortunately, it will not remove the existing duplicates in your library.

depending on your version of itunes (i would post the most recent one, but i keep mine back at something earlier for familiarity's sake) there is a way to display duplicate songs. from there, you just click on the top one, shift click on the bottom one, right click and delete.

i know a way to prevent it, and that is, when you choose an audio file to open with itunes, make sure the song isnt in itunes library all ready, cuz it will add it again the same as windows media player, theres an option there to ''add audio to library when an audio file is played''
